Let's Talk About D.Tube - Monday Vlog 2018-47

I've been experimenting with a new video service called D.Tube. Considering my concerns about having all my videos in Google's questionable care, having a backup plan seems like a really good idea.

A lot of this came from my mistake upload that cost me a channel strike, but I've also been looking for a YouTube alternative since Vid.Me shut down earlier this year.

Unfortunately, while I like D.Tube and I think it's got promise, there are three major issues that I've run into which prevent them from truly being competitive with YouTube.

1. No upload scheduling.
2. Per the TOS, videos aren't necessarily permanent.
3.  Upload process is really buggy.

There are a number of things to like, however, such as the ability to take live screencaps of any portion of your video, and better payouts than YouTube for a small channel. At the moment, I would say that the best plan would be to look at D.Tube as a secondary channel that complements YouTube.

Post PAX AAR - Part One! Vlog 2018-15

Well, that certainly was a whirlwind event! PAX East 2018 is in the books, and I'm busily working through a massive stack of game previews, games to review, interviews, flight reports, and other fun and exciting things. It looks like I'm going to break the vlog reports into a couple of pieces, lest I make a thirty minute talking head video.

All of the fun will, of course, get aggregated here, along with whatever websites it belongs on. Hold on, the fun is only just starting!

Monday Vlogging - PAX Eastbound!

It's almost time! The bags are packed (well, okay, I'll be packing them tomorrow), the schedule has been plotted, and all that's left now is to board the Big Metal Birds and get hurtled to Boston!

PAX East, here I come!

Monday Vlogging - February Wrap-Up

Taking a look at February, I made some major productivity changes that seem to be producing immediate dividends. Let's see if I can keep it up for a full month.

I broke my car, but I got her back. Lesson learned: do a full Nut and Bolt inspection of my four-wheeled vehicles, not just my motorcycle. Contacts are back on my face!

Unacceptable Risks - Monday Vlog 2018-9

A few weeks ago I had a mouse in my house. The little jerk stole the cheese right out of a baited trap, escaped when the trap fired, but couldn't resist coming back for a second taste. It was the last mistake he ever made.

My Saturn VUE has been giving me warning signs for months that the ignition or some other electrical component is failing. I ignored them, hoping that they would either go away, or that I could limp back into riding season before something failed catastrophically. I made it to February.

Risky behavior has a tendency to come back to bite you at inopportune moments. When the bait is just too good to ignore, there's probably some unexamined downsides.

Let's Talk Business - Vlog 2018-6

A few thoughts on Youtube's recent changes that demonetized a huge number of people, including me. A bit of explanation for why Youtube won't be my primary platform going forward, and some thoughts on the new productivity system that I'm trying.

Monday Vlogging - College Memories

Not the video I had originally planned for this week, but one I had to do.

This is a story about some good times, and a reminder to maybe get back in contact with someone in your life. Sometimes we put things off, figuring there's always time tomorrow, and then there just isn't.

November Burnout

It's been a very slow period on the blog this month. I noted in Monday's youtube vlog that there's a lot of reasons for this, with a bit of burnout and a total lack of buffer being the chief ones. I pushed really had to hit my 10k race goal, but the comedown was more difficult than I anticipated, and I definitely took more time off to refocus than I had planned.

But that's behind me, and what's in front is a refocused schedule, and some goals to get things back on track by New Year's. That's going to still be a challenge, but I think it's achievable.
